Nona Wyld

Nona Wyld is a PhD researcher documenting the rise of transphobia in the UK within the last 10 years. Their PhD specifically focuses on transmisogyny and how this plays out within queer and LGBTQ+ spaces in the UK. Their thesis explores space and gentrification, feminism and identity and the emerging area of trans studies. They completed their BA Hons at Birmingham City University and followed on to complete an MA in Media and Cultural Studies. A wider part of Birmingham’s cultural scene, they are a writer and performer performing across the West Midlands and beyond. Their research was born out of their own journey with their gender identity and interest in gender categorisation. They have presented at Brighton Trans & Non-Binary Conference amongst other conferences across the UK. Their creative writing has been published, and they placed third in their category in the Benjamin Zephaniah Future Writers Competition 2024 and was shortlisted again in the 2025 competition.
