We Gather Exhibition

By Karen Patel on February 7th, 2022

As part of phase 1 of the AHRC funded Innovation Fellowship Craft Expertise we commissioned five craft artists to produce pieces of work related to the project themes of diversity and inequalities in craft, to be shown at an exhibition at the new Crafts Council Gallery as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations. The Private View took place in November 2021 and was attended by around 100 people, and after a brief break during winter the exhibition reopened in January 2022 to run until March 2022.

The artists are Shaheen AhmedLorna Hamilton-BrownOmeima Mudawi-RowlingsFrancisca Onumah and Onome Otite. Whilst their chosen materials and disciplines vary, their work shares a commitment to craft, its cultural value and social justice. The exhibition was curated by Rosie Ross and Griffi.

The exhibition and Craft Expertise project were recognised as part of BCU’s award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion at the Signature Awards in February 2022.
