This special issue asks what are the effects of austerity in academia, a specific professional environment in which women have long experienced significant differences in relation to pay and promotion, staff/gender ratios, senior management and professorial roles, and research funding success even before the dynamics of class, ethnicity, age and disability intersect with gender.
