Dr Iain Taylor on Materiality
This first seminar of the new series sees the launch of our theme for the year. Dr Iain Taylor will be offering an overview of the concept of materiality, locating it within a historical and critical context, highlighting the contested nature of the term, and offering examples of its growing importance in the fields of media and cultural studies.
We’ll be hearing some short takes from colleagues whose work already engages with the theme, highlighting the different ways in which the concept might be usefully understood and applied. There will also be time to hear from each of the clusters about the exciting work that they have planned for the year ahead.
The session will conclude with a drinks reception to welcome our new PhD students, so please come along, introduce yourself, and make them feel welcome as part of our community of scholars.
