SKA
This form of Jamaican music was recorded between 1961 and 1967. Ska derived its form from Jamaican R'n'B which in turn gained its popularity from the American R'n'B and doo wop sounds of the early 50s.
By the late 50s American R'n'B took on a more mellow, dulcet mood whilst Jamaican R'n'B chose a different path, becoming wilder and jerkier in nature. Eventually as the craze for American music began to fade and the wild hunt for the latest USA soul trends ground to a halt, the sound system owners teamed up with their own 'home grown' Jamaican singers and musicians. This matrimony resulted in a hybrid of doo - wop, R'n'B and Jazz, that later became the makings of Ska. Ska was then promoted by the sound systems, heavily amplified mobile discos, increasing its notoriety throughout the land.
